Lessons are stimulating and challenging to appeal to students’ intrinsic interest, enjoyment and motivation, lasting 30 minutes or 45 minutes. Flexible lesson times. No lost credit if there is a technical fault on either side. Lesson will be rescheduled or time added on. 24 hour cancellation policy at tutor's discretion.

Mr Iain Masson BMus(Hons) BCU PGDip RNCM HonRBC MISM


Iain is a music tutor who offers patient, steady, thorough and methodical musical guidance to all his students. His pass rate is 100% with 20 years of tutoring experience. 

He currently has teaching spaces for 9 private online students.

He is a Composition graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music with a BMus(Hons) and PGDip in Composition. 

 

He is the former Resident Pianist of the Swallow Hotel Dundee, starting the role age 16, Wigmore's Wine Bar and Bistro in the famous seaside town of Broughty Ferry and Bar Epernay Champagne Piano Bar in the Mailbox Birmingham, home of BBC Birmingham. He has also on occasion played at the five star Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews and on many country estates.

 

He was taught by Maureen Rutherford, Pauline Robertson and Kathleen Renilson.

As a performer, Iain is a past winner of the -

 

  • Evelyn Forbes Ruark Memorial Scholarship for Solo Piano Performance

  • Dr. and Mrs. William Christie Piano Trio Rosebowl

  • Miss K.H. McLauchlan Cup for Piano Performance

Portfolio

Iain has performed for national and international clientele, corporate functions and events, charity banquets, exhibitions and trade shows, as well as touring sports teams. He performed for chefs including celebrity TV chef Brian Turner.

As Resident Pianist at Bar Epernay, he took part in a live broadcast of BBC One's Working Lunch show during regional hospitality sector coverage of the Chancellor's Pre-Budget Report, presented from the Mailbox by Adrian Chiles.

Iain holds a BMus(Hons) Composition from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a PGDip Composition from the Royal Northern College of Music.

In 2015, he was proudly conferred with HonRBC Honorary Membership of Birmingham Conservatoire (now Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) for services to music. 

Iain is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians

Iain is Enhanced DBS-checked and fully  updated with the latest safeguarding policies in education.
