Iain and charity band 'Lucky to Be Here' has played at a charity dance in aid of the Renal Unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

BAND TOUR OF FRANCE 14th - 21st July '99

Iain has gone on tour in France for the second time with Carnoustie High School wind band and choir. The groups performed at V.V.F. Canterelle in Evian Les Bains, secondly at Les Rives Du Leman School, and finally in the open-air Theatre Du Chateau in Disneyland Paris, under Sleeping Beauty's Castle. The band also travelled across the Lake Leman to Lausanne and Geneva, where they visited the United Nations building and the Olympic Museum. Pictured above outside the Chateau in Aubigny.

DR. KENNETH BROWNE MEMORIAL SALVER FOR CITIZENSHIP AWARD 14.07.99

Iain Masson is the proud recipient of the 1999 Dr Kenneth Browne Memorial Award for Citizenship, presented by the Provost of Angus at Carnoustie High School Theatre.

SCOTTISH/GERMAN CONSULATE IN EDINBURGH AWARD FOR GERMAN 14.07.99

Iain was the proud recipient of the Scottish/German Consulate in Edinburgh Award for German language.

EUAN CRABB FUNDRAISER 06.06.99

Iain has played non-stop for a mammoth 8 hours in order to raise funds for Euan Crabb, a boy with autism from Carnoustie, whose parents aim to raise £10,000 to send their son to Boston for pioneering therapy. 

Dundee Courier:  'Around the four hour mark, my fingers were really killing me, but at about six hours I seemed to break through the pain barrier!'. The event was a success, and raised over £650 for the appeal.

Iain has begun to play piano at Wigmore's Wine Bar, Bistro and Restaurant on Sunday afternoons and evening alongside his work as Resident Pianist at the Swallow Hotel, Dundee.

C.H.S. CHRISTMAS SHOW 15.12.98

The premiere of Iain Masson's commissioned opening and closing numbers to the 1998 Carnoustie Christmas Show has been sung by the chorus with live accompaniment in the Carnoustie High School Theatre. Iain is grateful to all the performers, and to his teacher Mr J W Joss for commissioning it!

IAIN ACCEPTS UNCONDITIONAL PLACE OF STUDY AT BIRMINGHAM CONSERVATOIRE 15.12.98

Iain Masson has been offered an unconditional place of study at Birmingham Conservatoire, and has accepted the offer. Iain will begin his studies in September 1999 in the School of Composition and Creative Studies.

BRONZE AT NORTHERN COUNTIES COMPETITIVE EVENT 09.12.98

Iain gained Third Place in the Northern Counties Schools Solo Competition for Brass, qualifying for the Scottish Finals at Livingston.

Iain Masson has auditioned for a place at Birmingham Conservatoire on the Composition and Creative Studies course to study Composition.

IAIN OFFERED UNCONDITIONAL PLACE AT ROYAL NORTHERN COLLEGE OF MUSIC 03.12.98

Iain Masson has been offered an unconditional place of study in the School of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music following a successful audition.

AUDITION AT ROYAL NORTHERN COLLEGE OF MUSIC 28.11.98

Iain Masson has auditioned for the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on the Composition course.

BBC RADIO 2 AND NYBBS 40TH ANNIVERSARY RECORDING 01.08.98

Iain Masson has taken part as a playing member of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland in its 40th Anniversary Concert, conducted by Frank Renton and recorded live for BBC Radio 2's 'Listen to the Band.'

RECORDING SESSION WITH NYBBS, YOUNGER HALL ST. ANDREWS 30.07.98

Iain Masson has taken part in a recording session as a National Youth Brass Band of Scotland member at the Younger Hall in St. Andrews, culminating in the creation of the national band's first professional CD, 'Music for a Brass Band'. The 40th Anniversary course, recording and concert was conducted by Frank Renton.

YOUNG ACHIEVER IN MUSIC AWARD 25.06.98

Iain Masson is proud to have been presented with a 'Young Achiever in Music' award from the Director of Eduction in an awards ceremony in Forfar.

FORFAR INSTRUMENTAL BAND CHALLENGE CUP WINNERS WITH ARBROATH INSTRUMENTAL BAND BASS QUARTET 14.03.98

Iain Masson and his tuba quartet colleagues have won the Forfar Instrumental Band Challenge Cup at the Arbroath and District (Competitive) Music Festival on 14th March 1998, in the Open Senior brass ensembles category. The ensemble was conducted by Ernest Gerrard.

EVELYN FORBES RUARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT FOR SOLO PIANO PERFORMANCE 07.03.98

Iain Masson has received the Evelyn Forbes Ruark Memorial Scholarship for solo piano performance in the Arbroath and District (Competitive) Music Festival on 7th March 1998.

MISS K.H. MCLAUCHLAN CUP WINNER FOR PIANO PERFORMANCE 07.03.98

Iain Masson has won the Miss K.H. McLauchlan Cup for solo piano performance in the Arbroath and District (Competitive) Music Festival for solo piano performance on 5th March 1998.

DR. AND MRS. WILLIAM CHRISTIE ROSEBOWL RECIPIENTS IN PIANO TRIO COMPETITION 05.03.98


Iain Masson and his piano trio colleagues Joanne Wylie and Victoria Wharton have won the 1998 Dr. and Mrs William Christie Rosebowl in the Arbroath and District (Competitive) Music Festival Piano Trio Competition.

FRANCE/SWITZERLAND TOUR WITH CARNOUSTIE BAND 1997 06.07.97


Iain has travelled to France and Switzerland with the Carnoustie High School Wind Band, performing in venues including EuroDisney, at Orleans Cathedral and by the Chateau in Aubigny-Sur-Nere in the presence of the Town Mayor.
