Conductor Iain Masson is powering full steam ahead, like greased lightning, to draw in new percussionists to join Black Country Brass to take part in rehearsals and concerts across the Midlands, a friendly Band based in Dudley.
Iain has now begun the process of contacting West Midlands percussionists and percussion teachers all over the area, in the hope of assembling a percussion team at the band, sure to become the pride of the Black Country.
Professional musician and Enhanced DBS-checked conductor Iain says, “We live in one of the best regions of Europe and actually in the world for percussion playing and percussion teaching, and I am really hoping to put together a team of players to work alongside our dedicated junior drummer Dan where we can enjoy great percussion all year round! It will make our rehearsals and concerts extra exciting and dramatic!”
Iain adds, “One of the attractive and innovative things we can offer younger players is that they can take part in rehearsals and concerts with the Band as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, assessed by me. They make a very good impression of themselves through their involvement, supporting local heritage by playing in a band, being real community ambassadors and helping local brass bands succeed and thrive. Bands need their help. I strongly urge percussionists of all ages to come along and give it a go! Percussion teachers can help by asking their students or even coming along with them as part of their education! We would be so happy to see you there!”.
Rehearsals are on Thursdays, 8-9.30pm at Lower Gornal British Legion Club, Ruiton Street, Dudley. DY3 2EH. Players can give it a go for free and see if they like it, without any obligation to join.
