25 years in England

As Birmingham Conservatoire graduate Iain celebrates his 25th year (this week) since becoming a student of Composition at Birmingham Conservatoire, a School then led by Professor Andrew Downes, he would like to thank everyone who has been involved in his portfolio of music activities across a quarter of a century living as a Scotsman on English soil! Iain says, "It has certainly been a busy and varied quarter of a century in England, and my love of community music and inclusive music making has made the West Midlands and England an ideal place for me to explore, gain skills, learn and improve, working in a range of interesting settings over many years. I really respect the music and arts heritage of England, which is so special. It was one of the things that attracted me to England in the first place. England is full of amazing music in all the genres, rich culture and amazing scenery too.'

Iain adds, 'For all the setbacks and challenges of big city living, which can hold you back and turn your hair white, and the challenges of being a self employed musician often on a backdrop of chaos, waste and sickening decline in the UK, very frustrating, I will always be grateful to have moved to England and for all the opportunities I have had. 25 years and still here! Looking forward to making even more memories here, and let's hope the coming years aren't too tough. I value everyone who has helped make the 25 years special, for their continued support and for their friendship.' Iain's website is live at www.iainmasson.com . He is currently delivering piano teaching work for Shades Music School, ATLP and has established his own private teaching service alongside leading rehearsals and concerts as conductor at Black Country Brass traditional British brass band based in Dudley. Iain is a member of the Independent Society of Musicians, an Honorary Member of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and is a Fellow of the Guild of Musicians and Singers in London.
